MICROMINE Africa Heads West

In February, MICROMINE’s new reseller, ACT-ICT, based in Ghana, received training on MICROMINE’s exploration and 3d mine design solution, Micromine. Kayleigh Cooper, Micromine Training and Support Consultant, Lee Bothma, Sales Manager Africa, and Renier Strydom, Regional Manager Africa were all part of the convoy that headed over to ACT-ICT offices in Accra.

Kayleigh spent 5 days with the ACT-ICT team going over everything Micromine related, as well as training their IT department on “Geology for Non-Geologists”. This involved training the Ghana office on mining processes throughout the mining value chain, and also touched on the daily workings on a typical mine. There were practical exercises to show how mines drill and how they extrapolate the information gathered from the drill hole data. Kayleigh also completed training on the Micromine software itself, with a focus on an Introduction course. During her stay, Kayleigh was treated on Valentine’s Day and taking out for a dinner in the Ghanaian capital.

Along with Kayleigh visiting our Ghana reseller, Lee Bothma and Renier Strydom conducted a client visit. Renier and Lee travelled from the 10th to the 16th of February, the trip required driving through Ghana from Accra, to the Newmont Ahafo Mine on the Sefwi Volcanic Belt. The Newmont Ahafo Mine is in the Brong Ahafo region, about 307 Kilometres northwest from Accra. It was a 7-hour drive through forests and rural villages where they came across some interesting sites. From extra-large snails being sold on the side of the road, to restaurants that involved some plastic chairs made for children, to bringing your own coffee grounds to have coffee – it was certainly an experience! The meeting with Newmont was to meet senior management to discuss a way forward and also on how to improve on their current systems. After 2 days on site, Renier and Lee started their 7-hour drive through the villages and forests back to Accra.

The trip also laid the foundation for future MICROMINE technology days that will create an environment for clients to get together to talk about the software MICROMINE has to offer and how we as a company can improve going forward.
